Picturehouse Podcast: Anthropoid with Sean Ellis

Director Sean Ellis pops by to talk about his new film Anthropoid. In cinemas now.

Director: Sean Ellis.
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan, Charlotte Le Bon. UK/Czech Republic/France 2016. 120 mins.

In this powerful period thriller based on real events, a group of Czech resistance fighters plot to assassinate high-ranking Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich, the man responsible for orchestrating the final solution.

Combining a breakneck plot, exquisite attention to historical detail, violence and gut-churning suspense, the film echoes the likes of Jean-Pierre Melville’s The Army Of Shadows, Paul Verhoeven’s Black Book and Edward Zwick’s Defiance in its depiction of individuals pushed to extreme acts of bravery in the face of unspeakable monstrosity. Led by an international cast of young actors, and expertly helmed by Metro Manila director Sean Ellis, this is genre filmmaking of the highest order.
