Punk’s Not Dead: Sid And Nancy Plus W London Anarch-Tea At Central

Central Logo CMYK 96%Celebrating 40 years of punk, we’re screening Alex Cox’s truly inspired portrait of the punk era, Sid And Nancy (UK, 1986). The gawky, rather dim-witted Sid Vicious (a perfectly cast Gary Oldman) is hired as the Sex Pistols’ bassist despite being unable to play the bass guitar – to their Machiavellian manager Malcolm McLaren’s utter delight. Already on a self-destructive journey, Sid meets spiky American groupie Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb). Their ensuing and ultimately fatal relationship plays out against the backdrop of the 1970s’ bleakly rebellious music scene.

Picturehouse Central has teamed up with our local partner W London for a fantastic event marking the opening of Sid And Nancy on Friday 5 August. We will host a W London Anarch-Tea pop-up café in our lobby from 5.30 until the 6.30 screening. Sample some of the punk-inspired cakes as part of W London’s Anarch-Tea offering and receive 20% discount vouchers for the full Anarch-Tea experience at W London.

About W London

Sophisticated and quirky, glamorous and decadent, W London Leicester Square crystallises the quintessential dual personality of the British soul. Located steps away from theatreland, the catwalks of Brewer Street and Soho’s electric nightlife, the hotel – like the city itself – is a bold contrast of themes, colours, textures and characters.

About Anarch-Tea

Part of the citywide Punk London event series, the #WAnarchTea, created by talented pastry chef Rachel Newman, combines quintessential British flavours with bold punk designs, served on an authentic vinyl cake stand.

Only at W London can you get a taste of cakes representing iconic songs from the subversive movement. Tuck into a ‘God Save The Queen – The Sex Pistols’ cake: a red, white and blue Battenberg with a marzipan icing crown; or a ‘Shut-Up – The Stranglers’ treat: a pair of strawberry mousse red lips sealed with a silver zip. For those who fancy an extra kick, order up a ‘Lust For Life’ cocktail with punchy Cachaça, zesty lime, sugar and passion fruit.
