Twitter reacts to the world premiere of The Lobster

The Lobster, the first English-language feature from director Yorgos Lanthimos, had its world premiere yesterday at the Cannes Film Festival.

The internationally acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos returns to the Côte d’Azur after the extraordinary Dogtooth won the Prix Un Certain Regard in 2009. His new film has been mooted as a favourite for the Palm d’Or.

The Lobster stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, John C. Reilly and Ben Whishaw, and is described as a blackly comic foray into the near-future, in which single people are required to find a partner within 45 days in order to avoid being transformed into animals and released into the woods.

Following the premiere, critics took to Twitter with high praise for the apparently strange and wonderful film:
