 Mishima, Shostakovich

American composer Philip Glass is an acclaimed composer for both the concert hall and the screen. This concert features his spellbinding Mishima Quartet, written for the 1985 film MISHIMA: A LIFE IN FOUR CHAPTERS, which is based on the life and work of Japanese writer Yukio Mishima.

The concert also features Boccherini’s Fandango Guitar Quintet, with guitarist Stefan Melovski. Plus, Shostakovich’s exhilarating String Quartet No 9 will be performed, which reuses the Ophelia theme from Shostakovich’s music for the famous 1964 Soviet film adaptation of Hamlet.
