David Fincher’s GONE GIRL hits cinema screens today (Thursday 2nd October) and is already receiving top honours from publications online.
The film follows the story of a man whose wife has gone missing, and the potential intrigue and conspiracy surrounding his involvement in her disappearance. Here is some of what is being said online about GONE GIRL and the anticipation for its release:
“David Fincher’s trash procedural for the Twitter age taunts, tickles and, ultimately, terrifies.”
David Jenkins, Little White Lies ★★★★★
“A brilliantly complex crime thriller, this excellent adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestseller is a truly classy bit of cinema.”
Mark Adams, The Mirror ★★★★★
“Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel has become a feverish thriller that has all the emotional subtlety of a Punch and Judy show – but is all the better for it.”
Xan Brooks, The Guardian ★★★★
“Stylish, twisted and daring, Gone Girl is a David Fincher date movie: dark, smart and dangerous. If it doesn’t deliver in its finale, its twist, turns and commitment to moral repugnance will leave you reeling.”
Ian Freer, Empire Magazine ★★★★
“Gone Girl is slippery, deceptive and immensely pleasurable.”
Geoffery MacNab, The Independent ★★★★
“This uneasy, ambiguous movie will wrong-foot you at every turn – and there are many. And although it doesn’t have a lot of positive things to say about the state of modern relationships, what it does provide is an absorbing, unsettling mystery, in which anyone, including your own husband or wife, could be – and probably is – a monster.”
Lucy Barrick, Radio Times ★★★★
“Director David Fincher and stars Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck are at the top of their game in this mesmerizing adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel.”
Justin Chang, Variety
“In a movie of subtle tones and wild swerves, Pike expertly mixes a cocktail of hot and cold blood. She is the Amazing Amy you could fall for, till death do you part.”
Richard Corliss, Time Magazine
