UP, up and away with the UK Box Office

October 12, 2009

Disney Pixar’s UP stormed the UK Box Office this weekend with the 2D and 3D managing a combined gross of £6.4m, the highest opening weekend figure since Mr Potter back in July.

Walking dead comedy ZOMBIELAND opened in the number two slot with £1.2m, including two days of previews – still chuckling about the brilliant Bill Murray cameo!

LOVE HAPPENS and HALLOWEEN II make up the other top ten openers, both scraping over £500,000 for fairly disappointing results.

The Shane Meadows/Paddy Considine Five Day Features experiment, LE DONK & SCOR-ZAY-ZEE, opened at 32 sites grossing £25,366. Although delivering a fairly disappointing screen average of £793, the film is well on its way to recouping its £30,000 production budget.

Across the Pond
COUPLES RETREAT
ruled the US box office and took the number one spot grossing an estimated $35.3m this weekend. The film survived terrible reviews thanks to its star-studded cast including the fabulous Vince Vaughn and the ever-young Kristen Bell. Being the only wide release this weekend also helped the film to the top spot.

ZOMBIELAND fell a very reasonable 39% bringing in $15m, while 3D CLOUDY WITH CHANCE OF MEATBALLS only dropped 24% now in its fourth week.

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity

Cult horror film – PARANORMAL ACTIVITY grossed $7m from only 159 sites with an astounding screen average of $44,440. The film which reportedly cost $11,000 to produce has been gaining momentum through TV ads and word of mouth. Watch this space. Possibly another BLAIR WITCH PROJECT…
