Looking For Eric Q&A at The Ritzy
The
Looking For Eric bandwagon rolled into the Brixton Ritzy last week complete with director Ken Loach, writer Paul Laverty, lead actor Steve Evets and über-star Eric Cantona. Our very own Jason Wood was asking the questions and 23 packed satellite-linked Picturehouses around the country enjoyed one of the best Q&As I’ve seen.

Gabriel is all smiles after meeting Eric Cantona
The four guests provided the perfect blend of filmmaking tale (Steve Evets had no idea that Eric Cantona was actually going to appear in the film until, when shooting a particular scene, he turned around and there stood King Eric, his reaction is what you see in the film), artistic insight (Ken Loach shot the linear narrative in sequence keeping the script hidden from the actors, only giving them each scene the night before filming), to unbridled adulation (Steve Evets claiming if he never worked again he’d be satisfied after the experience on Looking For Eric).
Which is the best cinema in the UK?
On the Guardian Film Blog last week Catherine Shoard asked where the UK’s best cinemas are? We’re over here! Twitter has been all a flutter with people spreading the word to vote (or comment) for your favourite cinema. The blog has over 250 comments so far with great mentions of loads of cinemas from The Cameo and the Filmhouse practically next door to each other in Edinburgh, to the Duke of York’s in Brighton. It is wonderful to see such a large number of cinemas mentioned so fondly, although strangely, I didn’t spot a multiplex anywhere in the list! Well worth a read.
